De La Soul occurs as massively influential alternative hip hop group, best known for their eclectic sampling & way-out, surreal lyrics, & their contributions to the evolution of the jazz rap subgenre. Kelvinside Mercer (Pos, Posdnuos, Plug Of these), David Jude Jolicœur (Trugoy, Trugoy a Dove, Dave, Plug Both) & Vincent Mason (Pasemaster Mase, Maseo, Plug 3) formed a class action in high school & caught a attention of producer Paul Huston (Prince Paul) with the demo tape of the song "Plug Tunin'".

Their debut album, 3 Feet High and Rising (1989), was a critical smash that saw a class action labeled hippies due to the message of peace and love. It quickly became large members of the Zulu Nation, along with A Tribe Called Quest, Black Sheep, Queen Latifah, The Jungle Brothers and others. "Me, Myself and I" became a brobdingnagian hit, farther cementing the class action's popularity. Notwithstanding, rock band the Turtles sued the class action for sampling "You Showed Me" while forgoing permissiin on De La Soul's "Transmitting Live from Mars". from either either that point in, sampling called upon permission from a sources prior to it was freed.

De La Soul's 2nd album, De La Soul Is Dead (1991) received mixed reviews & did non sell too. 1993's Buhloone Mindstate and 1996's Stakes Is High saw the class action develop the fresh healthy, that although over again did non garner commercial profits, did cement their position when mainstays of the alternative rap movement. 4 years resulting that, De Lthe Soul manufactured a kind of comeback by owning the foremost of a 3-a portion series entitled Art Official Intelligence: Mosaic Thump. This was followed by Art Official Intelligence: Bionix in late 2001. Around 2004 De La Soul freed The Grind Date, their seventh album.

Inside 2005, they featured on the recently Gorillaz single, "Feel Good Inc." & on the LA Symphony single "Universal".
